GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, higher education preferred.
  2. Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative, and positive working relationships with students, parents, and fellow staff members.
  3. Ability to qualify for Moses Lake Police  Department Reserve Officer training program.
  4. Possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License with a demonstrated safe driving record.
  5. Knowledge of security procedures.
  6. Ability to maintain records.
  7. Ability to apply appropriate discipline in accordance with district policies and procedures.
  8. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with local law enforcement agencies. 
  9. Ability and willingness to complete Public School Safety and Security Training.
  10. Ability and willingness to complete Safety Care training.
  11. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Patrols and monitors assigned areas of the school buildings, grounds and parking lots to deter, detect, report and stop violations of the law and/or school board policies. 
  2. Detects, investigates and reports unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles and activities.
  3. Assists administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations.
  4. Supervises and directs pupil movement. 
  5. Mediate conflicts among students or staff when necessary, using de-escalation techniques.
  6. Report any disciplinary issues or safety concerns to the school administration.
  7. Notifies the administrative staff, police, fire department, or other appropriate authorities of security or emergency situations. 
  8. Investigates student violations of school board policies and prepares reports of the results.
  9. Works with school administrators and law enforcement officials in handling serious student offenses and law violations. 
  10. Testifies in court and at School Board Disciplinary Review Committee hearings as required. 
  11. Assists with emergency drills. 
  12. Maintains security records, logs and reports. 
  13. Attends and successfully completes all staff development training as required by state law or directed by the Security Department. 
  14. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  15. Provide supervision of parking lots.
  16. Work with custodians when appropriate.
  17. Maintain district-assigned email account; read and respond to messages regularly.
  18. Accept responsibility for assignments and outcomes.
  19. Work cooperatively with other staff; maintain positive, respectful relationships and engagements.
  20. Work after school extra-curricular activities/events as directed.
  21. Interpret as needed if an individual possesses multiple language skills.
  22. Maintain excellent attendance.
  23. Perform other related duties as assigned.
