POSITION OVERVIEW

 

As a Substitute School Counselor, you will play a vital role in maintaining a supportive and nurturing school environment in the absence of the regular school counselor. Your primary responsibility will be to provide counseling services, guidance, and support to students, fostering their social, emotional, and academic development. This position requires flexibility and the ability to adapt to various grade levels, student needs, and school settings.

 

Pay: $25.71/hour

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Educational Staff Associate (ESA) counseling or social work certification required.
  • Masters Degree with emphasis in counseling.
  • Demonstrated interest, commitment, and ability to work with students, staff, and community.
  • Demonstrated experience in working effectively with a wide range of student abilities, both academically and socially.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a counseling team.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in counseling.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and listening skills.
  • Empathy, compassion, and a nonjudgmental approach to working with students.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Bilingual preferred

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Student Counseling:
    • Work with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such problems as home and family relations, health and emotional adjustment.
    • Provide crisis intervention and support to students in times of emotional distress or urgent need.
    • Assist students in setting and achieving academic and personal goals.
    • Foster a safe and inclusive space where students can discuss their concerns openly and without judgment.
    • Mediate conflicts between students and help them develop effective conflict resolution skills.
    • Remain readily available to students so as to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding and maturity.
  • Collaboration:
    • Adheres to Moses Lake School District’s vision and mission, is a lifelong learner and is receptive to positive growth and change.
    • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to address student needs and promote student success.
    • Participate in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings and provide input on students with special needs.
    • Work with other school staff to create a positive and inclusive school climate.
  • Record Keeping:
    • Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including progress notes and counseling records.
    • Prepare reports as needed to document counseling services and outcomes.
  • Other Duties:
    • Stay updated on current best practices and trends in school counseling.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Lead School Counselor.
