POSITION OVERVIEW

 

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Substitute Spanish Translator to support our school district in bridging communication gaps between Spanish-speaking students, parents, and staff members. As a Substitute Spanish Translator, you will play a crucial role in ensuring effective communication and understanding within our diverse educational community. This is an on-call position, and you will be called upon to step in when our regular translator is unavailable.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Proficiency in both Spanish and English, with exceptional written communication skills in both languages.
  • Must successfully complete the Spanish Language assessment with a score of Level 10 or higher.
  • Previous experience as a translator, preferably within an educational setting.
  • Familiarity with education-related terminology in both Spanish and English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to handle assignments on short notice.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and discretion when dealing with confidential information.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  1. Translation:
  • Translate written materials, such as letters, forms, educational documents, and announcements from English to Spanish and vice versa.
  • Maintain consistency in terminology and language style to ensure clear understanding across translations.
  1. Parent and Community Engagement:
  • Act as a cultural liaison between Spanish-speaking parents and the school, helping to bridge any cultural gaps that may arise.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school events to provide interpretation services as needed.
  1. Confidentiality and Professionalism:
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive information shared during interpretation assignments.
  • Uphold a professional and respectful demeanor at all times, adhering to ethical standards of the interpreting profession.
  1. Flexibility:
  • Be available on an on-call basis.
  • Adapt to various school settings, grade levels, and subject matters as needed.
