Licensed Practical Nurse (L.P.N.)

Shift time: 7 hours/ day, hours TBD
Shift time is subject to building needs.
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for assisting the school nurse(s) in providing health services to students, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for learning. The LPN plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of the school's health office, delivering basic medical care, and administering medications as prescribed. This role requires close collaboration with the school nurse to monitor student health, respond to emergencies, and promote wellness initiatives.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current and valid Licensed Practical Nurse license.
- Current CPR/1st Aid training.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Willingness to obtain current trainings as assigned by the Moses Lake School District nursing staff.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find acceptable.
DEMONSTRATED ABILITIES:
- Strong ability to work cooperatively as a team member.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with parents, students, school personnel, and medical service providers.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Direct Student Care:
- Assist the school nurse in providing first aid and medical care for students with injuries, illnesses, or chronic health conditions.
- Administer medications according to physician orders and parental consent, adhering to school district policies.
- Monitor and assist students with chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, asthma) and ensure they are following their care plans.
- Maintain accurate records of care provided, including logs of student visits and medication administration.

Health Screenings and Monitoring:
- Conduct vision, hearing, and other health screenings as directed by the school nurse.
- Track student immunization records and report non-compliance to the school nurse for follow-up.
- Assist in monitoring students for contagious illnesses and enforcing exclusion policies as necessary.

Emergency Response:
- Respond to medical emergencies on campus and provide initial care while contacting the school nurse, emergency services, or parents.
- Administer CPR or first aid as necessary in urgent situations.
- Participate in emergency drills and preparedness activities, ensuring readiness for various health-related scenarios.

Health Education and Promotion:
- Assist the school nurse in promoting health and wellness programs within the school, including hygiene practices, nutrition education, and disease prevention.
- Provide information to students and staff on managing chronic conditions and adopting healthy lifestyle choices.

Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the school nurse, teachers, parents, and other staff to ensure students' health needs are met.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding student health concerns, accidents, and medication needs.
- Coordinate with external healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care for students.
- Must have excellent attendance
