POSITION OVERVIEW
The Health Room Paraeducator plays a vital role in supporting the overall health and well-being of students within Moses Lake High School. Working under the direction of the School Nurse or Health Services Coordinator, the Health Room Paraeducator assists in maintaining a safe and nurturing environment in the school's health room while providing essential support to students who require medical attention during the school day.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
If you do not have the minimum college credits for this position, you may take the Paraeducator Assessment. Complete this FORM if you'd like to be scheduled for the assessment.
- High school diploma or equivalent AND a minimum of 72 college quarter credits from a nationally accredited institution or pass the ParaPro ETS Assessment.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain certification).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience and empathy when dealing with students' health concerns.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a healthcare team.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students and the school environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with students with disabilities.
- Knowledge of Skyward Health Module.
- Bilingual.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Work independently and solve problems with minimal supervision.
- Assist students with routine health procedures, including administering medications and ensuring compliance with health plans.
- Follow the instructions of the school Registered Nurse.
- Provide basic first aid and care for minor injuries and illnesses.
- Recognize and respond to emergency situations, such as allergic reactions or seizures, following established protocols.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming health room environment.
- Ensure that health room supplies and equipment are well-stocked and in good working condition.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, including immunization records and medical permissions.
- Assist in maintaining electronic health records and documenting health-related incidents.
- Follow strict protocols for maintaining the confidentiality of student health information.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and school staff regarding students' health needs and concerns.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and other school personnel to support students with chronic health conditions and Individualized Health Plans (IHPs).
- Provide guidance to students on maintaining good health practices and hygiene.
- Receive training as directed.
- Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift up to [insert weight] pounds.
- Stamina to stand, walk, and assist students for extended periods.
- Physical dexterity to perform routine medical procedures.
