Custodian - Night

Peninsula Elementary

7.00 hours per day/260 days per year

Shift time is subject to building needs.

 

We are seeking a dedicated and responsible individual to join our team as a School District Custodian. The custodian will play a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and inviting environment for students, staff, and visitors within our school district facilities. This position involves performing a variety of cleaning, maintenance, and janitorial duties to ensure the overall cleanliness and functionality of the school premises.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license with a safe driving record.
  2. Must possess or have the ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification.
  3. Must be able to communicate with district staff and public building users orally and in writing. 
  4. Must be able to work with staffand students.
  5. Must be able to work and communicate with the public and public groups who are on site.
  6. Must be able to perform all of the essential job functions and meet all of the physical requirements.
  7. Must be willing to learn and apply new cleaning techniques to improve efficiency and quality of work.
  8. Must be able to read, with understanding, hazardous chemical warning labels. 
  9. Must be able to use a vacuum and/or be able to learn to use a variety of other pieces of custodial equipment.
  10. Must be flexible in the performance of your route and duties in an effort to accommodate facility usages and school events and still complete your work.
  11. Must have proven record of punctuality and consistent attendance.
  12. Prior custodial experience preferred.
  13. Bilingual preferred

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Perform cleaning as assigned. Cleaning responsibilities may include but are not limited to cleaning restrooms, hallways, classrooms, offices, shops, gymnasiums, kitchens, etc. Use appropriate cleaning practices while cleaning with the proper materials and equipment to meet district standards.
  2. Clean up after students, staff, and the public. Clean up may include but is not limited to food, trash, bodily fluids, etc.
  3. Perform repetitive tasks such as / but not limited to vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, etc.
  4. Clean all surfaces and fixtures in all areas of the district.
  5. Snow removal.
  6. Ensure building security.
  7. Perform light maintenance tasks as requested.
  8. Work independently with a high degree of efficiency and attention to detail.
  9. Participate in site decision making process.
  10. Accept responsibility for assignments and outcomes.
  11. Work cooperatively with other staff; maintain positive, respectful relationships and engagements.
  12. Maintain punctuality and regular attendance.
  13. Maintain district assigned email account; read and respond to messages regularly.
  14. Other such job-related tasks as assigned.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Be able to lift, carry, and place a 60 pound object on a table four feet off the ground.
  2. Be able to work on your feet for long periods of time, including but not limited to: walking, walking up and down stairs, pushing brooms or mops, operating custodial equipment, etc.
  3. General conditions including but not limited to pushing, pulling, lifting, stooping, bending, and kneeling for durations of time.
  4. Be able to work on your knees or bent over to clean surfaces under and around fixtures, tables, cabinets, bathroom fixtures, etc.
  5. Must be able to work in hot or cold environments such as but not limited to attics, basements, outside, etc. as required.
  6. Must be able to work at different elevations to perform cleaning and minor maintenance.
  7. Must be able to shovel snow and spread ice melt when required.
