PARAEDUCATOR SPECIALIST 

BILINGUAL REQUIRED

7.50 hrs per day/180 days per year

Shift time to be determined

Salary Range per PSE Contract

 

Paraeducator Specialist

Coordinates activities or performs specialized duties to assist in providing instruction to and supervision of students in a variety of instructional and non-instructional programs. 

 

General Qualifications

If you do not have the minimum college credits for this position, you may take the Paraeducator Assessment.  Complete this FORM if you'd like to be scheduled for the assessment.

  1. High school diploma or GED and a minimum of 72 college quarter credits from a nationally accredited institution or pass ETS test required.
  2. Experience working with students in an educational setting.
  3. Must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  4. Fluent in Spanish and English required; must receive Level 9 on ALT Assessment.
  5. Ability to relate in a positive manner with students, parents, and staff/teachers, supervisory staff.
  6. Ability to work with secondary students in a tutoring situation.
  7. Successful experience working with multilingual students.
  8. Must be willing to respond with compassion to a student needing assistance language.

Paraeducator Responsibilities

  1. Meet performance expectations as outlined in MLSD #161 Classified Employee Performance Evaluation.
  2. Always punctual.  If absences are required, informs supervisor early enough so that normal work flow is not interrupted.
  3. Well groomed and has a neat and clean appearance.  Dresses appropriately for job assignment.
  4. Promptly and accurately follows specific instructions, and performs duties with a positive attitude.
  5. Applies appropriate discipline according to district procedures and behavior plans.
  6. Works independently and solves problems with minimal supervision.
  7. Works well with multilingual children individually or in small groups to communicate the appropriate language objectives under supervision of certified staff. 
  8. Builds a positive relationship with multilingual students. 
  9. Encourages multilingual students to develop positive relationships with their peers.
  10. Monitors activities to ensure safety and compliance with school rules.
  11. Accepts and acts on suggestions and comments for improving performance.
  12. Must have excellent attendance.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  1. Criminal history clearance through Washington State Patrol and FBI.
  2. Within the first year of employment, successfully complete the Washington State Fundamental Course of Study for Paraeducators provided by the District, as defined in RCW 28A.413.070, and continue to meet future requirements as mandated by the State.
