POSITION OVERVIEW
Responsible for executing all tasks related to the upkeep and maintenance of the Moses Lake School District's grounds, including athletic fields, playgrounds, walks, drives, parking areas, debris removal, and equipment maintenance, adhering to high standards set by the district.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Possess a valid Washington State Driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.
- Two years of vocational training or have completed specific courses in grounds maintenance, or possess equivalent experience.
- Have a minimum of two years of experience in grounds maintenance, in addition to the qualifications mentioned above.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including swing shifts and weekends when required.
- Proficient in the use of hand and power tools.
- Capable of reading and interpreting measuring and metering devices.
- Skilled in understanding and interpreting blueprints, schematics, specifications, and operating instructions.
- Able to comprehend and complete work orders.
- Be able to lift, carry, and place a 60 pound object on a table four feet off the ground.
- Ability to work in diverse weather and temperature conditions.
- Adaptability to various situations, including noise/vibration, toxic conditions, and unique hazards.
- Must have a proven record of punctuality and excellent attendance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Perform lawn mowing for various areas, including sports fields.
- Trim walks, curbs, and clear vegetation from fence lines.
- Undertake tree and shrub pruning/shearing, edging, and mulching of beds.
- Install trees, shrubs, perennials, or annuals, including the construction of new plant beds.
- Grounds policing, spring and fall cleanup (leaf removal).
- Foster a team attitude among Maintenance and Custodial staff for special projects or assignments; coordinate grounds work with other crafts within Facilities Maintenance.
- Conduct maintenance inspections and repairs on turf/grounds maintenance equipment.
- Stay updated on new equipment, materials, and procedures through ongoing training.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and OSHA requirements in work methods, equipment, and procedures.
- Analyze and recommend changes for methods, equipment, and plantings.
- Conduct routine inspections of playgrounds to meet or exceed Consumer Product Safety Commission recommendations.
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness, neatness, and proper dress, including appropriate footwear and safety gear.
- Accept responsibility for assignments and outcomes.
- Work cooperatively with other staff; maintain positive, respectful relationships and engagements.
- Maintain punctuality and regular attendance.
- Maintain district assigned email account; read and respond to messages regularly.
- Complete training as assigned by the district or supervisor.
- Adhere to all district and department policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
